Kitchen renovations

The Most Used Room in the House, Done Right

The kitchen is typically the most used room in the home — and the most complex to renovate well. A kitchen renovation coordinates structure, plumbing, electrical, ventilation, cabinetry, countertops, tile, appliances, and lighting within a space that has to function beautifully every day.

Across Wasaga Beach, Collingwood, and Blue Mountain, Mighton Construction manages that entire process with custom-home discipline — from the first layout sketch to the last finishing detail — so the room your family uses most is done right.

What a kitchen involves

Far More Than New Cabinets

A kitchen renovation done well coordinates structure, plumbing, electrical, ventilation, cabinetry, stone, tile, and lighting — all in the room your family uses most. Our projects go well beyond cosmetic updates.

  • Layout redesign — relocating plumbing, moving walls, and improving workflow between cooking, prep, and cleanup zones
  • Custom cabinetry — quality Canadian cabinet manufacturers, with storage designed around how you actually cook
  • Counters & backsplashes — quartz, granite, and porcelain surfaces, professionally templated and installed
  • Flooring & finishing — flooring transitions, trim, and paint coordinated so the kitchen reads as one cohesive space

Open-concept living

Opening Older Kitchens to the Way We Live Now

Many homes around Wasaga Beach, Collingwood, and Blue Mountain were built with small, enclosed kitchens. Opening them to the living space is our most requested kitchen project — and it is structural work, not decorating. We handle the engineering, the beam, the permit, and the finish, so the result looks effortless.

  • Load-bearing walls replaced with engineered beams
  • Electrical panels upgraded for modern appliance loads
  • Plumbing brought up to current code as part of the work
  • Islands with power, prep sinks, and seating for the whole family

Kitchens for the Way We Live Here

Older homes in the area often carry outdated panels and plumbing that need bringing up to modern loads and current code before a kitchen can be reworked. We assess the structure, wiring, and services first, then design a space that suits four-season life on the bay.

  • Older homes, handled — panel upgrades for modern appliance loads and structure assessed before walls open
  • Open-concept engineering — permits and inspections managed for you
  • Cottage-grade durability — surfaces and layouts chosen for sandy feet, big summer crowds, and four-season entertaining

Cottage & waterfront

A Kitchen as Part of the Bigger Picture

For cottage and waterfront properties, a new kitchen often coincides with broader upgrades — improving insulation, replacing windows, or converting seasonal spaces to year-round use. We can deliver your kitchen as a standalone project or fold it into a larger whole-home renovation, coordinated under one roof.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a kitchen renovation cost in South Georgian Bay?
Most of our kitchen projects fall between $50k and $150k+. Cost depends on the size of the kitchen, whether walls are being moved, the quality of cabinetry and countertops, and the complexity of plumbing and electrical changes. We provide a detailed budget before any work begins.
How long does a kitchen renovation take?
From demolition to completion, most kitchen renovations take 8–14 weeks. However, design development and material ordering (especially custom cabinetry) can add 8–12 weeks before construction begins. Plan for a total timeline of 4–6 months.
Can you open up my kitchen to the living area?
Yes. Removing walls to create an open-concept layout is one of the most common requests we handle. If the wall is load-bearing, we install an engineered beam to carry the load. This requires a building permit and structural engineering, both of which we coordinate.
Do I need to leave my home during a kitchen renovation?
You do not have to, but be prepared for disruption. You will be without a functional kitchen for several weeks. Many clients set up a temporary kitchen in another room with a microwave, kettle, and small fridge. We do our best to minimise dust and noise.
Do you supply the cabinetry and countertops?
We work with trusted cabinetry suppliers and stone fabricators. We can guide you through selections and manage the entire procurement process, or we can work with a supplier you have already chosen.
Do you provide kitchen design, or do we need our own designer?
Both work. We provide design through our cabinetry and design partners and can take the project from concept to completion — or we will build from plans your own designer has prepared. Either way, one team is accountable for the finished kitchen.
Who supplies the appliances?
Usually you choose and purchase appliances (we are glad to advise on selections and sizes), and we handle everything they need: gas lines, dedicated circuits, water lines, ventilation, and precise cabinetry openings so installation day is uneventful.
How do we cook while the kitchen is torn out?
Most clients set up a temporary kitchen — microwave, kettle, air fryer, and a small fridge in another room — and we can often keep your old fridge running nearby. We sequence the work to keep the no-kitchen window as short as possible and give you the schedule up front.
Do you install kitchens supplied by a big-box store?
Generally no. We are a full-service renovation company, not an installation crew — our value is managing the whole project to one standard: structure, mechanicals, cabinetry, stone, tile, and finishing. That is how the result ends up seamless.
How does your open-book, cost-plus pricing work?
You pay the actual cost of materials, labour, and subcontractors, plus a clearly defined management fee — and you see every invoice along the way. There are no hidden markups or padded allowances. It keeps our interests aligned with yours: we have no incentive to cut corners, because we do not profit from the difference.
Do you handle building permits and inspections?
Yes. Depending on the project scope, we coordinate or fully manage permits with the municipality, arrange required inspections, and handle conservation authority applications where properties in South Georgian Bay need them. Every project we build is permitted and inspected.
Can you work from plans we already have?
Absolutely. We regularly price and build from completed architectural drawings. If you are earlier in the process, we can also coordinate design and pre-construction planning with architects, designers, and engineers we trust.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Mighton Construction Limited carries $5 million in aggregate liability coverage and maintains WSIB coverage for applicable work, with clearance information available on request. All work is built to Ontario Building Code and inspected by the local building department.
What happens after I submit the contact form?
We aim to respond to serious project enquiries within 1–2 business days. The first step is a free phone conversation about your goals, timing, location, and rough budget. If the project is a good fit, we arrange a site visit and provide early guidance and a ballpark estimate.
How far in advance should we get in touch?
Earlier than you think. We intentionally take on a limited number of projects each year so Jeff and Adam stay personally involved in every one — which means our calendar fills ahead of the season. Talking early also gives design, permits, and material lead times the room they need.
